Self-Service in Banking

Debunking common myths

From grabbing a bite to eat to checking in for your flight at the airport to Tahiti, just about every industry has been advancing in remote and self-service technology well before COVID-19. Banking is no exception. We have come a long way from solely operating out of a brick-and-mortar building and now have innovations like remote deposit that allow you to deposit checks from the comfort of your own home—or anywhere – seriously, anywhere – even Tahiti or in Jeff Bezos’ case – the moon!

At Rock Valley Credit Union, we have taken self-service banking to a whole new level with the introduction of Personal Teller Machines (PTMs) to the Greater Rockford Area.

If you are unfamiliar with this technology, think of PTMs as an ATM capable of transactions traditionally done with the help of a teller but available to use 24 hours a day/7 days a week/365 days a year (insert fireworks here)! There’s no need to take a lunch break or get into work late just so you can deposit that cash from your grandma, which you’ve been holding onto for a bit too long now.

Here’s how the convenience of a PTM can make your life a thousand times easier.

  • Deposit checks
  • Deposit cash
  • Pay your loan
  • Withdraw cash and choose your bills - including one-dollar bills!

On top of this baseline increase in functionality, PTMs allow for members to conference with a video teller during normal business hours so anything needed above the ordinary transaction options is well taken care of

These changes have not come without challenges and objections—this is simply the nature of introducing change – we get it. We exist because of you, our members, and we empathize the challenges you face and work together to provide answers and solutions. As you know, the most recent change at RVCU was the addition of PTMs to our Loves Park drive thru. Today, I’d like to debunk some of the most common PTM myths, so you continue to bank with confidence.

Myth 1: PTMs have eliminated jobs

We actually have hired some awesome people to be able to assist our members through video technology and have created additional jobs right here in the community!

Myth 2: PTMs aren’t safe

Protecting your personal and financial information is our highest priority. Our systems are fully encrypted, and your information is safeguarded.

Myth 3: PTMs are not personal

If you are a people person – we are totally here for that. During regular business hours you can still connect with a RVCU staff via the PTMs. In addition, if you prefer to walk into one of our lobbies, friendly and smiling faces will be there to help, too

Have more questions or want to take the PTMs for a test run? The Rock Valley Credit Union team is here to help guide you toward setting your financial goals.
