Be Weary of COVID-19 Vaccine Fraud - January 14, 2021
It is exciting to know that a COVID-19 vaccine is on its way to consumers, but please be aware that, as with many things, there is a potential for fraud or related criminal activity surrounding the coronavirus vaccine.
COVID-19 vaccine fraud may include:
- The sale of unapproved and illegally marketed vaccines
- The sale of counterfeit versions of approved vaccines
- Illegal diversion of legitimate vaccines
Tips to avoid these fraudsters:
- Verify and document the information. Generally, consumers will not be personally contacted about the vaccine. If you receive a phone call or email, verify their identity and write down the information they are providing or suggesting. For example, if they say they are from your doctor's office, contact your doctor's office directly to verify they did contact you.
- Stay informed through reliable sources. Paying a fee does not move you to the front of the vaccine line. There is a structured process as to who gets the vaccine and when. Find out from a reliable source when you are eligible to obtain the vaccine.
- Obtain your vaccine through an approved provider, like your doctor or the health department.
If you have questions about fraudulent activity related to your accounts, please contact us at (815) 282-0300.
Our Loves Park & Rochelle Lobbies are Open for Business
We are always happy to see you (from a social distance, of course!) In addition to your financial well-being, your health and safety are a top priority.
To help protect you and our team members, here’s what we have put in place:
- Enhanced cleaning efforts taking place throughout the day
- Clear plastic panels installed at the teller stations and in-branch offices
- Hand sanitizer available throughout our lobbies
- Social distancing measures, including floor markers and limited building capacity
You can expect the same personal attention you have always received, but there are a few new procedures for how we interact.
Be prepared before you head out the door:
- Masks are required. Our social distancing and enhanced sanitizing practices are designed to keep you and our team safe
- Bring your government-issued ID. You will be asked to remove your mask temporarily and present your ID for identification purposes before entering the lobby. As always, we ask you to remove hats and sunglasses while in our location
- If our building is at capacity, you may be asked to briefly wait outside
Don’t forget! You can schedule a face-to-face or virtual appointment online. Our drive through is also open and you can access our digital services, including online and mobile banking, any time and anywhere.

Fraudsters haven’t wasted any time with scams related to the Coronavirus. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has received several reports of Coronavirus scams where individuals are contacted through text messages, social media posts/messages or phone calls. With the Government Coronavirus Stimulus Checks, there is an increase in number of complaints.
Please Do Not Give Out Any Personal Information
- Do not share account numbers
- Do not share social security numbers
- Do not pay a processing fee for receiving a stimulus payment
Risk Mitigation:
- Be aware of coronavirus scams through text alerts, email and newsletters
- Government agencies do not communicate through social media outlets, such as Facebook
- Never pay a fee for a government grant. A government agency will never request an advanced processing fee to receive the grant
- Beware of fake government agencies promoted by fraudsters.
- The only official list of all U.S. federal grant-making agencies can be found at www.grants.gov
Coronavirus direct payments will likely be in the form of direct deposits or through U.S. Treasury checks. Fraudsters may look to seize the opportunity to create counterfeit U.S. Treasury checks in their scams. They may also attempt to scam you into providing your account number under the pretense of direct depositing the stimulus payment to your account. DO NOT GIVE YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION TO ANYONE.
Please contact our Member Contact Center directly if you have questions at 815-282-0300.
